NU Hospitals aims to provide all the necessary laboratory investigations required for patient care through its laboratory services.

All the laboratory's departments provide qualitative analysis (chemical analysis designed to identify the components of a substance) and quantitative analysis (chemical analysis designed to determine the amounts or proportions of the components of a substance) of biological fluids such as blood, serum or plasma, urine, stools, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) etc. These are required in order to detect specific constituents to support clinicians in the practice of medicine.

Great care is taken to ensure accuracy, precision reproducibility and prompt reporting with a minimal turnaround time.

The laboratory has dedicated, motivated, knowledgeable and qualified doctors and technical staff.
 
The laboratory has the following departments:

 Biochemistry: The biochemistry department has the appropriate technology not only to perform routine tests but also a wide variety of 
   specialised investigations.

• Stone Analysis: We perform stone analysis by the FTIR method. We are the only hospital in the entire state of Karnataka 
  who perform renal calculi analysis by this state-of-the-art method.
• Renal Packages 1-3
  
       o Renal Package 1: is for detecting RBS (Random Blood Sugar), BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen), creatinine and electrolytes.
       o Renal Packages 2: is for detecting CBC (Complete Blood Count), RBS (Random Blood Sugar), serum creatinine, calcium, 
          phosphorus, uric acid, serum proteins, bilirubin, cholesterol and alkaline phosphatase. Urine analysis (to check 
          for proteinuria in nephrology patients) is also performed.
       o Renal Packages 3: is for detecting RBS (Random Blood Sugar), creatinine and potassium

       o Stone Packages 1& 2: is a screening test performed for urology patients.
       o Stone Packages 3 & 4: is performed to determine what type of stone has been formed.

      o Gonotec's Osmometer 030: is a machine with the latest technology. It provides

      o BS-300: is a fully automatic random access autoanalyser capable of performing sepectro-photometric and immunoturbidmetric 
         analyses of various analytes (an analyte is a component of a test sample, the presence of which has to be demonstrated). It 
         performs 300 tests per hour. Routine biochemistry analyses such as detection of RBS (Random Blood Sugar), creatinine, calcium, 
         phosphorus, uric acid-screening tests conducted for renal stones, can be performed on this machine.

 Clinical Pathology: This department performs routine abnormal analyses.

 Haematology: The laboratory is equipped with completely automated instruments such as cell counters for carrying out routine
   haematological investigations. These investigations are those conducted for haemoglobin, total and differential leucocyte counts, platelet
   count, red blood cells, etc.

• Internal and External Quality Control: The laboratory maintains internal and external quality control standards. Special emphasis is given to daily quality checks through internal quality control as well as external quality control standards, by participating in quality control standards. The quality control standards are maintained as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations.
  
  
• Bar-Coded Samples: We use bar-coded samples that are read by lab machines. In this way, user-operated errors are completely eliminated and user details are properly verified. In this way, quality is ensured. The barcode interface enables the identification of lab samples and the quick preparation of reports.
  
  
• Direct Transfer of Lab Results: through the lab equipment interface to the Hospital Information System (HIS) Network.
  
  
• FDA-approved Reagent Kits: The reagents kits used for various analyses are FDA-approved.
  
  
• Vacutainers: Blood is collected through a close blood collection system called ‘vacutainers’. This system comprises of tubes that have a vacuum within them and that are filled with a pre-requisite amount of preservative.
  
  The system avoids contaminations and minimises contact. Moreover, the vacuum allows the punctured site of the blood vessel wall to collapse immediately upon withdrawing the needle, thereby avoiding the extra flow of blood into the surrounding tissue.

• Providing Laboratory Services 24/7, 365 days a year: The laboratory provides patients round-the-clock services, 365 days a year.
  
  
• Collection of Samples and Delivery of Lab Test Results to Patients’ Homes: We collect samples as well as deliver the processed lab test results to patients’ home. This makes the process of lab testing highly convenient and easy to undergo for our patients.
