Q1. Where can I avail medical insurance? What are the medical insurance policies that are available?
A1.

There are various medical insurance policies provided by insurance companies or by third-party administrators (TPAs) for insurance companies.
You can avail of these from the insurance companies and the TPAs that we have tie-ups with. To see our list of tie-ups, please
click here to go to the 'Tie-ups' page. Once you are in the page, please go to the sub-heading 'Insurance Companies & Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) for Insurance Companies' to see the list.

You can also avail medical insurance from insurance companies and TPAs with whom we do not have tie-ups with. However, please note that cashless facility cannot be availed in this case. Cashless facility is a convenient and time-saving facility that allows patients to undergo treatment and/or utilise hospital services without them having to make a direct payment. That is, instead of the patient paying the bill(s) and then asking for the reimbursement from the TPA or insurance company, he/she signs the bill(s), which the TPA or insurance company then directly settles with the hospital. Cashless facility is subject to terms, exclusions, conditions and limitations of the policy that has been availed.

Q2.  How much of the cost will medical insurance cover?
A2. The cost covered by a particular medical insurance policy will be as per the limit provided in that policy.

Q3. How much does it cost to avail medical insurance?
A3.

The insurance premium to be paid for a particular medical insurance policy will be based upon the age of the person and the sum insured (the coverage offered by that policy) and will vary from policy to policy. Please keep in mind that availing medical insurance enables you to cover the cost of unforeseen medical expenses, either partially or fully. This is based upon the sum insured (the coverage provided by the policy).

Q4. Who all are eligible for medical insurance?
A4.

Everyone is eligible for medical insurance except senior citizens above the age of 80 years, who are not eligible for a new medical policy. However, if you are a senior citizen above the age of 80 years and you already have an existing medical insurance policy or policies, then you can renew the same. Some companies provide policies for senior citizens between the ages of 61 to 80 years. Higher premiums have to be paid in the case of these policies.

Q8. As an insurance patient, what is the admission procedure that I will have to follow?
A8.

You will have to bring the identity card provided by the third-party administrator or the insurance company at the time of admission. We will then process the authorisation using the identity card. (If you bring it before the time of admission, we will be able to obtain the authorisation or the pre-authorisation letter earlier).

Q9.

Will the handling of my case be delayed if there is a delay in authorisation from the insurance company or the TPA? How is this avoided at NU Hospitals?

A9.

Through HealthSprint (an insurance information system that is an electronic interface between the TPAs & the hospital –  currently available for TTK Health Care Services Pvt. Ltd. & Medi Assist India Pvt. Ltd.), authorisation can be obtained very quickly. For all other TPAs and insurance companies, the request for the authorisation/pre-authorisation letter is faxed to the TPAs or the insurance companies. The authorisation or the pre-authorisation letter is then faxed by the TPAs or the insurance companies to us. This ensures that the authorisation process is completed quickly.

Q10. What are the expenses that medical insurance covers?
A10. Medical insurance only covers expenses incurred for inpatient admissions that are for a duration greater than 24 hours.
.........................................................................................................................................................................................
Q11. What are the expenses not covered under medical insurance?
A11.

Non-clinical expenses such as telephone calls, ambulance service, food, etc., are not covered under medical insurance. If a person is availing a new medical insurance policy and he or she is found to have a pre-existing disease, that disease will not be covered under the policy.
