Preventive Nephrology is a medical service that aims to prevent or delay the onset and progression of kidney diseases in India. It involves screening, diagnosis, treatment, and education of patients who are at risk of developing kidney problems or who already have chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Preventive Nephrology also promotes healthy lifestyle habits, such as diet, exercise, and smoking cessation, to reduce the burden of kidney diseases on individuals and society.
We conduct regular camps for those who have diabetes, hypertension, and the elderly to identify early kidney problems. Urine and blood tests are performed, in addition to physical examinations, to identify early kidney diseases in these people.
To protect the kidneys:
- Avoid taking over-the-counter (OTC) drugs.
- Avoid painkillers, especially if you already have diminished kidney function.
- Quit smoking.
- Always ensure good control of blood sugar if you are a diabetic patient.
- Ensure adequate control of high blood pressure.
- Periodic urine analyses and kidney function tests are required, especially in long-standing diabetics and hypertensives, to identify early kidney disease.
- Adequate medical attention and follow-up treatment are required in children with Urinary Tract and Infection (UTI).
