A Nephrostogram is a procedure conducted to check the patient’s nephrostomy catheter and ensure that the kidney drains adequately into the bladder and the ureters. This text also uses a dye/ contrast medium to highlight into the nephrostomy tubes and then capture X-Rays
The procedure isn’t painful, but the patient might experience a slight ache in the kidney. A tube is placed directly into the kidney and the X-Rays are captured in various positions. This test would help determine whether the nephrostomy tube needs to be retained or removed based on the test results.
The nephrostomy tube is necessary when there is a blockage in the ureter, obstructing the flow of urine from the kidney to the bladder.
